John Pilger died on December 30th, 2023. He was an incredible journalist, filmmaker and critic of Western Foreign Policy.
He made many films on these subjects.
I would say my favorite film of his was his 2007 film The War on Democracy. It’s an excellent film on US interventions in Latin America, including Chile, Guatemala, El Salvador and Venezuela.
I would also recommend The Coming War on China, about US warmongering over China, The War You Don’t See about the role of the mainstream media in war, The Dirty War on the NHS about efforts to privatize the NHS in Britain, and Palestine Is Still the Issue about Israel’s occupation of Palestine.
Here is a clip from Palestine Is Still the Issue about the suffering of the Palestinians:
This is a clip from his film The Coming War on China exposing the deranged and hypocritical warmongering propaganda on China:
Here is a clip from The War on Democracy, where he interviews a former CIA chief on Latin America. This is another great aspect of his films: the interviews. Note though, you’ll probably get pissed off at the moral depravity of the CIA chief (I know I do everytime I see it).
This is a clip from his film Burp! Pepsi v. Coke in the Ice Cold War about the role both companies played in Latin America, including sponsoring coups, dictators and death squads.
If you’re curious for more, here’s a thread by Zei_Squirrel on Twitter about the history of US Intervention in Guatemala that uses clips from The War on Democracy:

In summary, John Pilger is a legendary man and I’m sorry he’s gone. I hope his family’s doing well.
I’ll leave you with two things.
The first is a clip of John Pilger owning genocidal neocon warmonger Bill Kristol.
And the second is this amazing quote from him on the responsibility of journalists.
